The Downtown Neighborhood Association is sponsoring its Spring Urban Homes Tour Saturday (June 9), and this year’s event will include three just-completed apartment projects: Two Light, The Union and 531 Grand.
Jared Campbell, the president of the DNA, said this is the second year his group has sponsored the event, which he described as a great way for people to explore downtown residential projects they might have read about or viewed on television.
“There’s a real attractiveness for people to see inside these buildings and check out such features as the Beacon Lounge in the Power & Light Building or the infinity pool at Two Light,” he said.
The developments on tour are located in several different neighborhoods including the Freight House District, Central Business District, the River Market and the new 410-unit Union development adjacent to Berkley Park on the riverfront.
The self-guided tour begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. It’s followed by a happy hour event at the Cleaver & Cork restaurant at Kansas City Live from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

–Board of Trade Lofts, 127 W. 10th St.
–Stuart Hall Lofts, 2121 Central
–Summit on Quality Hill, 1200 Washington
–Commerce Tower, 911 Main
–531 Grand, 531 Grand.
–Centropolis, 501 Grand.
–Union Berkley Riverfront.
Campbell said the demand for downtown housing remains strong, noting the newly-opened Two Light luxury tower, which had its grand opening last week, already is 70 percent occupied.
“In the last few years, we’ve seen an incredible influx of new residents,” he said. “With the development boom along the streetcar line, downtown Kansas City has become the place to live work and play.”
Still, some real estate experts believe the downtown residential market may be slowing as more projects come on line.
Urban Homes Tour guests are encouraged to use the streetcar to visit properties along the route. Maps locating the open properties will be available at each stop.
