Avenue Logistics is relocating its 30-employees from Overland Park to the 18McGee building in the East Crossroads.

Avenue Logistics is relocating its 30 employees from Overland Park to a renovated building at 18th and McGee in the East Crossroads.

The firm will open its new offices in what’s now called the 18McGee building by the end of the year, according to a press release.

“When we were looking for our new offices, we wanted a vibrant environment that appeal to our team,” Brad Jerwick, vice president of Avenue Logistics, said in a statement.

The Chicago-based freight brokerage logistics firm will be the second tenant in the three-story building at 215 E. 18th St. redeveloped by Vince Bryant. Working Space, an office interior and furniture business, occupies the first floor.

Bryant also is renovating the historic former offices of The Kansas City Star across the street from 18McGee. That $95 million project, which will convert the old building into 250,000 square feet of office and 30,000 square feet of retail, is called Grand Place.

“With everything happening in the Crossroads and the renovation of this building and all the amenities planned across the street at Grand Place, we believe this is a strategic way to use real estate to attract and retain team members,” Jerwick said in the release.

The 6,000 square-foot top floor of 18McGee is still available for lease. The renovated building includes a roof top paio.

The former interstates Securities Building originally was built in the 1950s to finance automobile purchases in what was then a thriving automotive district in the Crossroads. It later housed Kansas City Star operations.

In addition to the Grand Place and 18McGee projects, Bryant’s firm, 3D Development, has been actively renovating other historic Crossroads properties including Corrigan Station, and the Candle and Creamery buildings.

The firm is currently pursuing a $95 million apartment project called Track 215 next door to the Freight House building.

Bryant also has a contract to purchase the Superior Moving & Storage buildings at 2020 Walnut. His tentative plan calls for renovating the historic buildings into office space.

The developer also is promoting a recreational trail concept called Greenline that calls for creating a loop around downtown dedicated to bicyclists and pedestrians.
